Painting give-away

It’s that time again, for me to give-away one of my paintings.  It is the one featured to the leftfloating irises . The painting is  surrounded by color to  just give you a comparison to the purples in the painting.  The colors are rich and full of life. I used acrylics like a watercolor  to let them blend and then “found modern looking irises”.  What you need to do to enter the drawing is to give me a critique of the painting and your name.  Next Sunday I will announce the winner.  Make sure you give the critique and not just a ‘like’ or your name will not be entered. Go to my Facebook page: RKMJCreations. The critiques give me feedback on what is working in the painting. It’s one of the reasons I give away paintings (the feedback), the other is it just feels good to give a painting away.  It is a fun 11×14 piece of art.

Creative Fun

red nature (2)I know I tend to write short blogs.  I have a short attention span and I am not able to keep my concentration on one subject for very long.  I’m thinking there may be more people like me out there so I keep it short for all of us.  Again this is another painting I did for the joy of painting.  Wanted to explore a painting that was full of warm colors.  I like that there is a lot of movement within the painting, too.  Hope seeing it makes you smile.  I am a bit frustrated as I am still in my creative slump.  I did some painting on Tuesday, it was just some quick studies and I know I was only able to do them because of my artist dates.  Artist dates are for everyone because all of us are CREATIVE and we need to fill up that part of our selves.  Artist dates are with your inner creative self and they are for playing and having fun. They can be anything from something as simple as going to the dollar store or something big like going to a concert.  Give yourself an hour a week to play, but don’t bring anyone else along, it is just for you to connect with the CREATIVE ENERGY within yourself. So please this next week go have FUN!!!!  Before long you will feel different about yourself and the world in positive ways.

Peek-a-boo blue

As I wrote last time I was going to post for awhile those paintings where I just painted for the joy of it.  This is another one of those joyful paintings (Peek-a-boo blue).  Had great fun blending the peek a boo blue (6)colors together and then seeing patterns within.  With the blue background it makes the painting exciting and I think you can feel the joy in it.  In this new year I want to strive to get that joy back. I am excited to see what unfolds in this new year with my art, no matter what I know there will be lessons of some kind and hopefully growth. Also want to say when you see an artist’s work realize that it  is a piece of their heart , a piece of their life, and to expose that for others to see is very scary. For most likely that inner artist child has been admonished many times for being “outside the lines”. I would also recommend you to be “outside the lines”.  It may be scary but it is also a ton of fun!

the journey

orange blush (2)At the beginning of the year I wrote I was starting on a two year journey.  This year’s journey did not go exactly as planned as I had to take several months off from painting to pack up and move from Texas to North Carolina. Then I opened up my etsy shop (etsy.com/shop/rkmjcreations) and that took longer than planned. Thus I painted a lot less than I thought  I would. From the times I did paint I realized it takes longer to learn your art than two years, it is a lifetime thing if you want to get better, and know your art and know yourself. There is always something to learn from each painting.  At the moment I am somewhat blocked. Am reading  Julia Cameron’s book  The Artist’s Way.  Would recommend it to anyone who wants to add more creativity to their lives, no matter what form. From just the little bit I ‘ve read I know where my block is coming from.  It is because I am trying to paint what I think others will like and things I think will sell on Etsy. That is so not creativity.  You have to paint from your heart, paint things you love or are excited about.  The painting to the left is a painting  I did from pure joy.  Others may not  like it but whenever I see it, I still feel the joy I felt while painting it.  I will be posting other paintings that were painted just for the joy of creating and not from forcing out a painting .

“Quotes”

quotes about art that I find to be true

“I beliefloating irises6ve that art can transmit joy” “I believe that art can transform sorrow”  “I believe that art can change minds”  “I believe art can heal hearts”  LET ART SURROUND YOU. (I believeart.com)::   “Art is a definite way to truth”::   Art provides a healing force which aids both the maker and the viewer.”  (Richard Newman)::

” Art is prayer” (Joseph Zinker)::  “Art is not just ornamental, but a path in itself, a way out of the predictable and conventional, a map to self discovery”(Gabrielle Roth)

and most of all I want to leave you with the words;  “Life is not a problem to be solved, but a mystery to be lived”

If you do not make art like, writing, baking, quilting, floral arrangement, dancing, singing or the   many other ways of creating  then SURROUND YOUR SELF WITH WHAT YOU LOVE. Beauty will seep into your heart and that is art itself.

exploring

crossroads (5)As you know I mostly do abstract florals.  One day I wanted to try something way out of my comfort zone. This painting is what happened. Myself, I’m not sure if I like it or not, but I had fun doing this.  It was a way to turn off the logical side of my brain and let the lines, shapes and blending of color take over. Later I was able to focus with fresh eyes on a floral I had been working on. I think not just in painting but in all parts of our lives we need to get out of our comfort zones.  It will help you grow as a person.  What you find may be something  you like or something  you don’t like, either way you have learned more about yourself, the world and the others who live in it.

The Floral Gwen

gwen (2)My newest attempt at my Cottage Chic/Folk Art paintings.

I started off like normal but this painting wanted to go a different way.  So I followed along and the painting came out looking more like a pastel.  Totally different than my normal look.  Some artist know from the beginning to the end how their painting is going to go and that is a great way to paint.  I’m learning if I just let the painting talk to me I end up with an unexpected painting.  Sometimes I like the results and sometimes I don’t. Either the process of letting go gets me into a”creative” space.

lessons learned

My wonderful nephew has been helping me with my website/blog again. So we will see if everything goes where it isred tamale (4) suppose to go and does what it is suppose to do.  I have been painting what I call Cottage Chic/Folk Art the past few weeks. (when did it go from Shabby Chic to Cottage Chic??)  Anyway in the past the paintings were interesting with a lot of color and simple flowers.  This time I wanted drama, kind of bold in your face painting. That when you see it you can feel the energy. I feel I accomplished this.  I recommend painting a painting like this it gets you creativity going.
